A mural featuring the beauty of Trinidad and Tobago and Colombia has been unveiled at the National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) in Port of Spain.
The mural was gifted to Trinidad and Tobago and the city of Port of Spain by the government of Colombia via Colombian Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Martha Cecilia Pinilla Perdomo, in commemoration of Colombia’s 212th anniversary of independence.
The mural, titled “The Caribbean Sea That Unites Us”, was done by Colombian muralist Paula Osoria Pineda (@Tintadelrio) with assistance from local artists at the University of the West Indies, Shireen Ragoobir and Shania Warris.

Speaking at an unveiling ceremony on Wednesday, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Dr Amery Browne said the gift is yet another tribute to the strong ties between both nations.
“In February, Trinidad and Tobago and Colombia celebrated 54 years of formal diplomatic relations, however what we will see illustrated on the walls is a representation of Colombia and Trinidad and Tobago sharing an enduring bond through our shared Caribbean heritage. It is my hope that our continued collaboration both bilaterally and regionally will spawn further opportunities for engagement, with further enriching engages of culture and people between our two countries.”
Ambassador Perdomo said the gesture is one of friendship and goodwill:
“[Tintaldelrio] has expressed how connected we are, a reality that inspired my goal of bringing Colombians and Trinbagonians closer together with an open and supportive dialogue which allows for a greater understanding of our common destiny in the Caribbean Sea that unites us.”
NALIS Executive Director Paula Greene said the mural will enrich the beauty of the capital and spur much interest in years to come.
“We are indeed honoured for the enthusiasm and love that you have poured into this mural. We’re certain that your art will initiate many interesting conversations in the weeks, months and years to come.”
“We also believe that having this art is an embodiment of the connectedness and similarities of peoples and a stark reminder that there are more things that unite us than divide us.”
Also present were Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Faris Al-Rawi and Port of Spain Mayor Joel Martinez.
The mural adorns the Eastern wall of the library and is open to the public for viewing.
